Walter Browne is a legend of modern US chess. Browne won the US Chess Championship an incredible SIX times (1974, 1975, 1977, 1980, 1981, 1983) and was in fact the dominant US tournament player in the immediate post-Fischer era. Browne is a fierce and uncompromising competitor and is famous for his superb theoretical preparation and frequent nerve-jangling time scrambles in tournament play.
